Lot Essay

The International Exhibition of 1682 was a world's fair, held within a large and imposing building constructed at great expense, to exhibit the latest advancements in agriculture, technology and the arts. The building was situated on twenty-three acres beside the gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society in South Kensington. As seen here, the building consisted of a main structure ornamented by two distinctive domes, the largest in the world at the time of construction. The adjoining wings were for the display of large equipment, and were demolished after the Exhibition.
