Descriptif du lot

A study for the figure of Sarah on horseback in Abraham's journey, a composition known in many painted versions. The best is usually recognized to be that executed circa 1576-77 and now in Berlin Gemäldegalerie (see Jacopo Bassano c. 1510-1592, exhib. cat., Bassano del Grappa, Museo Civico and Fort Worth, Kimbell Art Museum, 1992-3, no. 60). Of all the versions known, it is the only one which is signed by both Jacopo and Francesco.
