Lot Essay

The horse and rider on the recto was probably drawn in preparation for Stefano's etching of 1645 (A. De Vesme, with Introduction and Additions by P.D. Massar, Stefano Della Bella: Catalogue Raisonné, New York, 1971, I, p. 75, no. 175, II, p. 48, fig. 175). Another related drawing is in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg (De V., op. cit., I, p. 75, no. 175).
