The attribution to Doomer has been confirmed by Professor Werner Sumowski, who suggests that it dates from the 1660s when the artist traveled up the Rhine from Cleves to Bingen. Another drawing in the same style, executed circa 1663, A water-mill in the 'Wildbaan' near Arnheim is in the Teyler Museum, Haarlem (see W. Schulz, Lambert Doomer, Sämtliche Zeichnungen, Berlin and New York, 1974, pp. 19 and 80, nos. 86 and 175).
