CIRCA 1790

A large platter from this service was in the Mottahedeh collection and is illustrated by Howard & Ayers, op. cit., p. 449, where they explain that the service was probably made for the King's Club in Copenhagen, founded 1775. Thus the arms incorporate the lions of Denmark, the lion of Norway and the crowns of Sweden. The Kongens Klub, later known as the Union Club, flourished in the late 18th and early 19th century, but "has long since ceased to exist."
