N. de Castro,Chinese Porcelain and the Heraldry of the Empire, p. 253 illustrates a plate from this service, which was made for the 400th anniversary of Vasco da Gama's famous May 1498 discovery. One ship was abandoned at the Cape of Good Hope, shown are the São Gabriel, the Berrio, and the São Rafael that successfully completed the journey.
