Lot Essay

After a Western wall fountain prototype, this form was used in the dining room for serving red wine at room temperature and/or for ablutions. Very similar models but with varying underglaze blue decoration have been sold Christie's, New York, 24 January 1997, lot 24 and Christie's, London, 16 November 1998, lot 450. For another example of this form, also from the Benjamin F. Edwards Collection, see Christie's, New York, 22 January 2003, lot 128.
