Lot Essay

Another saucer from this unusual service is illustrated by Hervouët and Bruneau, op. cit., p. 202, fig. 9.27, where the authors have identified the original engraving for this design as one signed E. F. Busney Del. and J. Heath Sc., which was used as a frontispiece of a book entitled Elegant Extracts in Poetry. A copy of this book, once belonging to Lord Nelson, is on display at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London. Another saucer and teabowl were sold in Hervouët Collection, part II, Sotheby's London, 3 November 1987, lot 859.
