Lot Essay

D.S. Howard notes that the 'naturalistic poses' and 'unfamiliar coloring' indicate that these birds are 19th century and 'a rare model of which only one other pair is recorded'. The other pair was sold in our London rooms, anon. sale, 1 November 1993, lot 27.
