A FRENCH .800 SILVER-GILT AND ENAMEL COMPACT
Late 19th century
Of shaped oval outline, the hinged lid decorated with an enamel plaque depicting a young couple, enclosing a silver-gilt interior with hallmark to inside rim, the exterior with chased scrolling foliate decoration
3in. (9.2cm.) wide
Together with a papier-maché and pewter inlaid snuff box, second quarter 19th century, enclosing a hand written note 'Taken from the pocket of a Russian officer after the Battle of Inkerman' (2)
