Lot Essay

The identity of the artist is not known. Thieme-Becker, Lexikon, etc. IX, 1913, p.22, suggests that the artist was probably active in Rotterdam and might be identical with the 'constschilder' Nicolaus-Joseph de Ligne, who became master in the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp in 1769.
