The arched stiff leaf-carved back, arms, seat and squab cushion covered in close-nailed floral-patterned cream silk, the foliate-carved arms above entrelac-carved seatrail, on stop-fluted tapering legs, headed by rosettes and terminating in toupie feet, stamped 'P. PLUVINET'

Philippe Joseph Pluvinet, maître in 1754.

A related pair of fauteuils by Pluvinet was sold anonymously, Christie's, Paris, 16 April 2007, lot 384, and a white-painted canapé en corbeille by the menuisier is in the Musée Carnavalet, Paris. (P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 2002, p. 707).
