The chair pattern is derived from a George III mahogany armchair in the Victoria & Albert Museum and illustrated in P. Macquoid & R. Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, London, rev. ed., 1954, vol. I, p. 295, fig. 220. It was presented to the museum in 1922 by Edward Dent, Esq. and is illustrated in M. Tomlin, Catalogue of Adam Period Furniture, London, 1982, p. 140, no. Q/1.
