Lot Essay

The sitter was the daughter of Johan van der Stringe and Anna van Citters. She married Johan Reesen, who was member of the council of Middelburg from 1653-1665. The present whereabouts of his portrait (Moes, op.cit., no.6363, photograph in the RKD), the pendant to the present lot, is unknown since the sale of 1933.
