A 20th century bronze bell from the M.V. Oranje
of typical form, cast in bronze with molded rim, with clapper and (later) rope work tail, engraved "M.V. ORANJE".
9¾ x 9 in. (24.8 x 22.9 cm.) height x diameter.

Lot Essay

The M.V. Orange was launched in 1939 for the Stoomvaart Maatschappy Nederland (SMN) Line working the East India routes. She served as a hospital ship during WWII. After the war she returned to her intended service. She was destroyed by fire in 1979.
