The following is a description as it appeared in The Sphere: Three German airplanes were flying above the waters of the Mediterranean. Nearby a British submarine lay submerged. The submarine, commanded by Lt. C. Maydon, D.S.O., through his periscope sighted an axis supply ship escorted by three aircraft. He fired a torpedo and taking another look, found all that was left of the target was a magnificent column of orange and white smoke, rising 1,000 feet and only two of the airplanes. The third airplane was destroyed by the explosion of the ship which shot up 1000 feet in the air.
