A Frigate of the American Navy saluting a passing British Man-o'war

The present drawing depicts the saluting of an American frigate on passing a British one. The saluting was imposed on the Americans after the War of Independence. It was one of the prime reasons for the American War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain.
