Lot Essay

Knip visited the city of Namen and its surroundings, including the river Maas, in 1809, just before he left for Rome. The studies executed then were frequently used in later years. A signed view of the Maas dated 1823 was sold in these Rooms, 21 November 1989, lot 203, illustrated.
