This scene is closely comparable to Chodowiecki's etchings Der kleine l'Hombre-Tisch, dated to the same year as the present drawing, and Der grosse l'Hombre-Tisch dated 1763 (E. Wormsbächer and J.H. Bauer, Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki, Erklärungen und Erläuterungen zu seinen Radierungen, Hannover, 1988, Ba. 15 and 24/E. 13 and 22). L'Hombre is a Spanish card game played by three to five people, popular in Germany in the 18th Century.
