A German Renaissance gilt-brass and gilt-copper striking thirty hour Tischuhr with alarm
Early 17th Century
The case on spreading gilt-copper repoussé base with formal strapwork, fruit and foliage, the removable side panels with foliate engraving and flanked by columns with anthemion decoration and Ionic capitals, the gilt-copper pierced repoussé cupola surmounted by double-headed spread eagle finial, main dial with applied Roman and Arabic chapter ring, alarm disc to the centre and chiselled steel hand with arrow head tail for the alarm set, the rear strike dial with engraved Arabic chapters and raised dot markers centred by foliate engraving and cut steel hand, the twin line and fusee movement with iron square section pillars, dot regulation marks to the top plate for the former verge, balance and hogs hair escapement, now with an early replacement verge and rear swinging pendulum, the strike train with countwheel mounted on the back plate and striking the hours on the bell mounted inside the top cupola, the alarm train with going barrel and double-headed hammer striking the main bell
