Lot Essay

Le Puy en Velay is located in the heart of the Massif central in France. It used to be the starting point of one of the main pilgrimage paths that leads to Santiago de Compostella. On top of one of the hills, called the Corneille Rock, stands a gigantic high statue of Madonna (16.8 m. high). The statue was executed in the 19th century during the reign of Napoleon III. The tall, majestic figure is crowned with stars.
