Lot Essay

This handkerchief is a tour de force of the dyer's art. Printed using indigo dyes and white resists, it has two faces. This is technically extremely difficult, as the liquid resist has to be applied in such a way that it does not penetrate through the cotton fabric, which would ruin the pattern on the other side of the handkerchief.
