RUSSIAN, 19TH CENTURY
Dominating the upper part of the icon the figure of Christ with shimmering garments, displaying his stigmata, amidst a glory of light, two angels in the lower section indicating the image above, surrounded by the apostles, the Mother of God unusually shown here kneeling in the foreground opposite St. Peter, the landscape executed realistically, with warm tones, the solid nature of the earthly world, in comparison to the celestial one, emphasised with deeper colours occasionally brightened by the gold highlights of the garments
