The Anastasis and Resurrection of Christ in the central section, surrounded by the narrative of the Passion consisting of twelve episodes, beginning at the upper left corner with the Last Supper and finishing with the Entombment, an inscription above each scene identifying the represented subject, sixteen further events illustrated at a larger scale framing the Passion Cycle, the New Testament Trinity portrayed on the top border, each spandrel showing an evangelist, the upper left corner with St. John reciting the Apocalypse to Prochoros on the island of Patmos, the other three evangelists shown in their scriptoria writing their Gospels; the figures painted with deep colours, standing out against the brighter backgrounds, the whole of the composition emphasised by the deep green border
