Lot Essay

John Claudius Loundon (1783-1843) was a Scottish botanist, gardener and urban planner. He started his career as the landscaper of Tew Park in 1808 and latter became an advocate for green municipal spaces in city planning. He published various encyclopdeiae including those of plants (1828), the arboretum (1838), trees and shrubs (1842).
