A Kawari Kabuto (Eccentrically-Shaped Helmet)
Edo period (17th century)
Five-plate iron bowl covered with a lacquer structure formed as a butterfly, the antennae and body of the butterfly raised relief and the wings protruding from the back of the helmet, prominent eyebrows hammered up from the bowl above the peak; fitted with a four-lame neck guard laced in blue terminating in small turnbacks lacquered gold
