Edo period (17th-18th century)
Hon-zukuri, iori-mune, torii-zori, chu-gissaki, with indistinct hada, hamon probably re-tempered, tang ubu with one hole, 17 7/8in. (45.5cm.) long; koshirae comprising a red-lacquer "bamboo" saya, Yanagawa-school shakudo nanako-ji kozuka with a Chinese lion in gold taka-zogan with shakudo eyes, inscribed Yanagawa Naomasa, blade illegibly signed, mokko shakudo sukashi tsuba carved with lightning patterns, Hamano-school shibuichi migaki-ji fuchi-kashira with phoenixes in gold taka-zogan, signed Hamano Naoyuki and kao, tsuka wrapped in baleen and lacquered gold with gold menuki carved as phoenixes, 19th century
