An Enju Katana
Nanbokucho peiod (14th century), attributed to Enju Kunisuke
Sugata [configuration]: naginata-naoshi, iori-mune, wide shinogi, with deep curvature
Kitae [forging pattern]: running itame with hints of masame, hada-tatsu with ji-nie, chikei and shirake utsuri
Hamon [tempering pattern]: hoso-suguha- ko-gunome with ko-ashi, yo, ni-juba, san-juba, wide nioi-guchi and much ko-nie
Boshi [tip]: suguha-gunome-midare
Nakago [tang]: o-suriage, saki-giri with katte-sagari file mark and two holes
Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 27¼in. (69.2cm.)
Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 1¼in. (3.1cm.)
Sakihaba [width before tip]: 1¼in. (3.1cm.)
Habaki [collar]: single, gold
Koshirae [set of mounts]: comprising a black-lacquer ishime-ji saya decorated with floral heraldic crests in black lacquer and fitted with a heavy brass kojiri carved with "rain" pattern, the tsuka wrapped with yellow silk and fitted with iron fuchi-gashira decorated with dragonflies in iroe taka-zogan and insect menuki in gold and shakudo, the iron mokko tsuba inlaid around the rim with vines in silver and gold
With a certificate of registration designating this blade as the 41st Juyo token (Important sword) no. 9839 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword) on 1995.11.10 (2)
