Lot Essay

Emile Pierre Metzmacher was a Parisian painter of the 19th century specialising in genre and portraiture. A graduate of Boulanger, Gleyre and Willems, he debuted at the Salon in 1863. His masterful hand is evident, his works exhibiting a fluent line and brave colour palette.
