Lot Essay

The French-fashioned dining chairs have palm-flowered Grecian pediments in the antique fashion popularised by R . Ackermanns, The Repository of Arts, 1828; while their pattern of palm-wrapped columnar leg relates to those of a Grecian-scrolled chair in J.C.Loudon's, The Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture, 1833 (no. 1895).
