The stag well cast in a recumbent position with head turned back to look at a separate figure of Shoulao which forms the cover, the Daoist immortal holding a ruyi scepter and wearing robes decorated with foliate scroll, his mouth and a small leaf-shaped aperture in his back pierced for the release of smoke, with traces of pale russet, red and black lacquer
