Compare with two other similar mid-Ming tiered boxes: a four-tiered square version with scholars, from the Estate of Dr. Ip Yee, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 19 November 1984, lot 115; and a lobed hexagonal box with comparable flower scrolls on the sides, illustrated by Hu Shih-chang, Chinese Lacquer, Edinburgh, 1998, pl. 28.
