Comprising a rectangular buckle and two rectangular belt segments, one end of each belt segment with trefoil hinged loop and embellished with ruby and emerald-colored cut glass 'jewels', each inset with a jade plaque of even white tone

Compare the first-rank official belt, chao dai, ornamented with three white jade-inset gilt-bronze plaques which was given to General Gordon by the Tongzhi Emperor and which is now in the Royal Engineers Museum. See, G. Dickenson and L. Wrigglesworth, Imperial Wardrobe, London, 1990, p. 157, pl. 139. On this belt, embroidered silk purses and ceremonial kerchiefs are shown suspended from the loops of the outer two plaques.
