8o (208 x 132 mm). 8-line errata. Engraved frontispiece, title and 38 plates after Hablot K. Browne ["Phiz"], TWO ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY BROWNE INSERTED, see below (plate 6 with a pale dampstain, plate 13 shaved along foremargin). (Lacking half-title and list of plates.) Green morocco, gilt-lettered on spine, top edge gilt, original front wrapper for part 9 bound in at end, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Provenance: Kenyon Starling (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, A FINE COPY WITH TWO ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY "PHIZ" INSERTED. The last line of p.324 contains the error "Capatin." Each image is in positive and is approximately 138 x 10 mm on onion skin and inlaid into a larger sheet. These drawings vary from the plates in the book, since Browne made two sets of etchings. The first, "The Christening Party," is plate B, while in the book is plate A (Johannsen, pp.245-6). the second is plate A while in the book is plate B (ibid., pp. 295-6). Sadleir 687; Smith I:8; Woolf 1798.
