DICKENS, Charles. A Curious Dance Round a Curious Tree. [London: St. Luke's Hospital, 1860].
8o (184 x 121 mm). (Lightly browned.) Original printed pink wrappers (faint vertical crease caused by original mailing envelope as usual); quarter red morocco slipcase. Provenance: Clara B. and Edward C. Daoust (bookplate; their sale American Art Association, New York, 1929, lot 141); Kenyon Starling (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION IN PAMPHLET FORM, second issue, with the appeal for funds on the last page of text (p. 19) in bold type. Since the initial application for funds (see previous lot) had been relatively unsuccessful, this second attempt was made deploying such fundraising tactics as highlighting the direct appeal at the end of the pamphlet, and including a now very scarce return envelope addressed to St. Luke's Hospital (not included here). Eckel, pp. 188-91; Yale/Gimbel B216. A FINE COPY, RARE IN THIS CONDITION.
