Each worked in gold and silver metallic thread couched with colored threads depicting a bat holding a fruiting peach branch in its mouth above a ribbon-tied wan emblem, all on a pale yellow satin ground, with yellow silk tassels

Lot Essay

The decoration on this pair of pouches, bats carrying a branch of two peaches and a ribbon-tied wan emblem, would have symbolized wishes for both endless blessings and longevity. Another pair of yellow satin aromatic pouches similarly embroidered in gold and silver-wrapped thread with the same motifs is illustrated by R.D.
