A rare bronze figure of Vairocana
Swat Valley or Kashmir, 7th/8th centuryy
Seated in dhyanasana on a pillow over a lion throne and lotus base, the hands in bodhyagri mudra, wearing a finely pleated dhoti and sash draped around his elbows, adorned with armlets and a silver inlaid necklace, his face with a benign expression with inlaid silver eyes and copper lips, locks of hair falling over his shoulders and secured by a foliate tiara centered by a seated image of his spiritual father Amitabha
