The stepped relief depicting a small four-armed deity in an architectural niche with an openwork pediment above, his right hand raised and holding a waterpot, his other two hands holding longer implements in the background, flanked by a devi with elaborately coiled hair to the right

Lot Essay

The posture of the male figure, with four arms long garland, is similar to that of Vishnu, yet this figure is shorter and stouter than it's female counterpart and holds a water pot in his lowered left hand, possibly indicating that he is Vamana, the dwarf avatar of Vishnu.
