Mounted on a turned stained wood plinth mounted with silver plaque engraved To Major General Slatin Pasha K.C.M.G C.B M.V.O from Victoria R.I. March 2nd 1899, the reverse mounted the monarch's crowned Royal cypher, inscribed to front and reverse Boehm Fecit

General Slatin Pasha was one of the most colourful characters of the Colonial period, born in Austria but decorated by Queen Victoria, his adventures in the Sudan read like a 'Boy's Own' adventure story and he is the subject of two novels, 'Fire and Sword in the Sudan' and 'Between two flags'.
