With gilt finished cylinder movement, the silvered dial with black Roman chapters and with applied gold foliate decoration, with hunter-style case, the front enamelled with a scene of a lover leaning on an anchor above a scene of a pigeon bringing a letter, set with rose-cut diamonds, with a pierced and engraved scrolling bracelet, case signed (enamel damaged)

Lot Essay

The scene on this watch symbolises a lover looking out to sea hoping (the anchor being the symbol of hope) that time will bring a letter from her lover, the anchor is fouled which may indicate that he is infact lost and that she waits in vain.
