CIRCA 1750-52, BLUE INTERLACED LS ENCLOSING DOT MARKS
The écuelle with entwined leaf and flower-moulded branch handles, the domed cover with a fruit finial, each painted with vignettes of exotic birds and waterfowl before leafy trees and foliage within lakeside landscapes and further birds in flight, with gilt line rims (some surface scratching to landscape vignettes, some wear to gilding)

Lot Essay

See Svend Eriksen and Geoffrey de Bellaigue, Sévres Porcelain, Vincennes and Sévres 1740-1800, (London, 1987), no. 59, pl. 239 for a quatrefoil écuelle with similar vignettes of birds, and no. 58 for a similar circular example with a fruit finial. A similarly decorated example was sold by Sotheby's New York on 26th September 1989, lot 277. An example of the ronde form formerly in the collection of the 6th Earl of Rosebery at Mentmore, was sold by Sotheby's on 24th May 1977, lot 2005.
