These figures were first modelled by Pierre Blondeau in 1752, after François Boucher and conceived as a pair. Boucher's drawing for Le jeune suppliant is still at Sèvres, and the reverse is inscribed 'dessein de m. Boucher apartenant à la Manufacture de Vincennes, ce 23 aoust 1749'. For illustrations and a discussion of these models, see Tamara Préaud and Antoine d'Albis, La Porcelaine de Vincennes (Paris, 1991), pp. 172-3, no. 176. Also see Émile Bourgeois and Georges Lechevallier-Chevignard, Le Biscuit de Sèvres (n.d.), nos. 362 and 494 for similar figures. Another similar pair from the Elizabeth Parke Firestone Collection (Part I) was sold by Christie's New York on 21st March 1991, lot 108; and a figure of La Petite Fille au Tablier was sold in these Rooms on 11th December 2000, lot 393.
