Lot Essay

The inscription cartouche reads; Order of His Excellency the most Noble the chief of the Ilkhani tribes Qashqa'i. A similar, but uninscribed example, is published by Eberhart Herrman, Von Konya bis Kokand, Seltene Orientteppiche, III, Munich, n.d., no.90, p.151.
