Lot Essay

The field design of paired serrated leaves which form an overall lattice, is one that can be found on many earlier Kurdish pieces at the beginning of the 19th century. Two examples, one on a blue field the other on a white field, are illustrated by James D. Burns; Antique Rugs of Kurdistan, A Historical Legacy of Woven Art, London, 2002, pl.24 pp.94-5 and pl.51, pp.164-5.
