DAVE HEATH
A Dialogue With Solitude. Culpeper, Virginia: Community Press, 1965.

Quarto (280 x 210 mm). 82 black and white photographs. Original linen, spine lettered in brown; original photo-illustrated dust-jacket (short tear on back panel, spine head lightly worn, extremities lightly rubbed); cloth folding box. Provenance: JoAnn Frank (inscription from Heath).

FIRST EDITION. AN EXCELLENT COPY INSCRIBED BY HEATH: "To JoAnn Frank whose spirit belongs to the ranks of photography. Dave Heath. 3 November 1967". A Dialogue "has achieved cult status... few have attempted such a programmatic exploration of the psychology of emotion and the human psyche" (The Photobook). It pushed the photo-essay "into a personal and poetic dimension which was almost unique... and which has rarely been matched to this day" (Contemporary Photographers). Frank was one of Heath's students at Moore College, Philadelphia; she published 3 Dozen in 1977. The Photobook, vol. II, p.104.
