Lot Essay

When Dr. Jean Luc Meulemeester first published this work in his 1984 monograph on van Oost he knew of the work from documents only. Since then, Dr. Meulemeester has seen the painting first hand and confirmed the attribution (loc. cit.), dating it to the 1630s.
