PROPERTY OF HUGH D. AUCHINCLOSS III The present watches are accompanied with a letter from Hugh Auchincloss stating he received these watches as presents from various royal families while he traveled in the Middle East during the early 1960s. Hugh D. "Yusha" Auchincloss, III (1927 - ) was born to American stockbroker Hugh D. Auchincloss Jr. and Maya de Chrapovitsky, a Russian noblewoman. In 1942 his father married Janet Lee Bouvier making him step-brother to Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. They developed a close relationship which he later chronicled in a short memoir published in 1998 entitled, "Growing up with Jackie: My Memories 1941-1953." Auchincloss served in World War II as a member of the Marine Corps. Before serving his second tour of duty in the Korean War he entered Yale University in 1947 where he began his exploration of Middle Eastern culture. He continued his studies, following his military service, at the American University of Beirut, which later benefited him in his roles at the World Bank and on the Aswan Dam Project in Egypt. During 1961 Auchincloss served as both a liaison officer of the U.S. Delegation to the 16th General Assembly of the United Nations along side Adlai Stevenson and advisor to the U.S. Permanent Mission. He currently resides at Hammersmith Farm, his childhood home in Rhode Island, which also was the site of his step-sister's wedding reception to former President John F. Kennedy in 1953.
