Lot Essay

The 1810 delivery of the Paris firm Thomire-Duterme et Cie to the Royal apartments at Fontainebleau included nine pairs of candlesticks of this design (see J-P. Samoyault, Pendules et bronzes d'ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, p. 185, cat. 169).
