Lot Essay

This suite of finely carved seat-furniture in the French Louis XVI manner was most probably executed in Genoa, Liguria. Cabinet-makers in both Genoa and Turin were to some extent following the latest Paris fashion and emulating the work of various menuisiers. A related walnut armchair in the Palazzo Reale, Genoa, is illustrated in E. Colle, Il Mobile Neoclassico in Italia, Milan, 2005, p. 394.
