THE PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN (LOTS 175-181). Culham Court, a restrained Palladian mansion designed for Robert Michell by Sir William Chambers (1722-1796) in the late 1770s, was the backdrop for the dramatic interiors created by Chester Jones in the late 1990s. His mission, encouraged by the owners, was to create an interior that would complement both the house and their love of modern British art. Jones's response was to produce an interior scheme at once harmonious yet dramatically modern, theatrically encased within its neo-classical, 18th-century setting. Given his brief, he juxtaposed modern and earlier pieces inside the classical proportions of its Palladian interior: the setting of Culham Court was ingeniously modernised and updated by Chester Jones to accommodate a relaxed and comfortable form of contemporary living. A selection of furniture from Culham, some of it designed by Chester Jones specifically for this commission as in the case of some of the following lots, was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 26 January 2007, lots 1100-1120.

The inverted breakfront dentilled pediment above four shelves flanked by two fluted Corinithian columns, each side with a door enclosing two shelves, the base with two doors enclosing a shelf, the sides with grille panels, on a solid plinth, the backboards reused and 18th 19th century
